Name—Country Comment
Gallagher, Daniel—USA I am a circumsized male. I feel that I had part of my life destroyrf by this barbaric act. When I asked my mother why she had it done she informed me that she was never told she had a choice.
Galvez, Heather—USA With all of the scientific evidence and other factors, it is unbelievable to me that circumcision/other genital mutilating procedures are still done routinely in U.S. hospitals! Evidence is overwhelming and it is beyond obvious that these procedures are simply cosmetic and absolutely inhumane!
Gardner—Ireland Both male and female genital mutilation of children up to the age of 18 must be banned. It is a cruel and inhuman practice that leads to physical and psychological problems, immediately and throughout the victim's life.
Garner, Dana—USA This barbaric practice needs to be stopped.
Garner, Russell—USA Last frontier of civil rights.
Garrett, Craig—USA Most parents end up having to make decisions to circumcise their children without being given any information on the functions or purpose of the foreskin. If people knew about the foreskin (it's sensitivity and role in intercourse) they would stop circumcising their children.
Gartner, Robert—USA Barbaric that we should still be discussing this in the United States.
Gary, Jennifer—USA why is it evil to circumcise a little girl, but not a little boy. In the 1970s we used to do open heart surgery on infants without anesthesia. Doctors claimed that they cried because they didn't like being restrained. For those who are Jewish, Man wrote the bible, not GOD. If GOD wanted babies to be circumcised, why weren't they born that way. NOBODY has a right to cut someone elses genitals.
Gastel, Jodie—Canada Just because something has "aways been done' doesn't make it right. Take a really good look at what circumcision is and does.
Gaston, Yvonne—USA It is time for humanity to stop and think about the practices which we follow in nurturing our children to the fullness of their participation in the life experience. It is important for every practice to pass the test of compassion, respect and support of the child's well being and integrity.
Gauthier, Casimiro—France If mutilation is something bad - which is the case - then it is bad even for children, even for religious or cultural reasons. No child should ever be harmed, and this includes mutilation. Circumcision and excision are mutilations. It is harming a child, it is doing something bad, and it is not respect of the human rights. It is not respecting the most important and sacred rights of all times, far before religious ones, far before cultural ones : the children rights. Respect the world : respect the children. Respect the children, let their genitals alone.
Gómez Puerto, Catalina—Colombia Porque todo ser humano, en especial nuestras niñas, tiene el derecho de vivir dignamente y nosotros tenemos el deber de hacer todo lo posible para que esto se de...
GEARY, Willy—USA Please don't hurt baby boys. It is torture. It is wrong to circumcise!
Geel, Michelle—South Africa I have no problem with letting grown men decide that they wish to be circumcised, but to do it to an innocent child...its just not ok it is infact depraved. My husband isnt circumcised and he has never had a problem with cleanliness or rashes or anything like that.
Geisheker, John—USA Keep up your holy work. They got me when I came to America at age 6 years, intact, from New Zealand. I was given the strapped-down, no-anesthesia "Welcome to America" screaming for one's mother treatment. That was 1952, no consent needed then, and none offered. That sort of medical greeting has a way of getting your attention. I am devoting my legal time to a campaign to sue doctors and hospitals for unethical surgery, representing men of 18-21, botched babies or parents who have had an epiphany. Thanks again, John Geisheker
gelb, joan—USA it is wrong to cut the genitals of a baby. we don't allow genital cutting of girl babies in this country. why do we allow it on baby boys? it is outrageous.
George, Simion—Romania I have suffered "fimosis" during most years, last 20 years. They discovered my "fimosis" in 1986; that year a doctor told me to do a circumcision operation, because my prepuce was not completely retractable, and I had problems during sexual intercourse. I didn't do it, in time my prepuce became most retractable. Want I want to say there is that : last year I read on Internernet, most exactly on cirp.org, about using of corticoid creams to solve some problems, like lichen planus. I buy and used Dermovate cream for 4 weeks, once a day. I'm so surprised because after three weeks my foreskin becames totally retractable and from then I don't have any problems during intercourse and my prepuce , now, is perfectly normal. This is my experienece. All the doctors who saw me, in the last years, told me to make a cicumcision, but my religious beliefs are not in concordance with that. I'm not a sclave, I'm a free man. You knew that circumcision was in ancient Egipt a mark for sclaves ! Trurly ! For that jews practise circumcision, because they was sclaves for egiptians, and that was a mark for sclavery in Eastern civilisations. All war prizoniers, man prisoniers, was mutilated like this. To take them off masculinity. It's a humiliation method, they have to be able to work and serve the masters properly and penis was the organ they didn't need in sclavery.
Gereau, Pamela—USA Males in this country should have the same rights, regarding their genitals, as females are allowed by law.
Gibbons, Theron I firmly believe that males, females, and intersexed individuals of ALL ages should be protected from genital mutilation, to include Ruotine Infant Circumcision of males and females, and ritual/religious circumcision. The harming of another individual for the purposes of religious or social cosmetics is unacceptable and inhumane.
Gibson, glenna—USA Hopefully the more people that sign this petition it would help the people who are being hurt
Gibson, Lindsay—New Zealand The mutilation of the penis by removal of the foreskin is totally wrong and completely un-necessary.
Gilcrease, Eddie—USA In the United States, healthy functioning tissue is routinely amputated from the genitals of helpless male infants via the act of circumcision. My own son is due to have this done soon, and there is no way for me to prevent it as only a single signature, the mothers for instance, is required for consent. This procedure is barbaric, harmful, and violates the basic human rights of the child in a hundred ways. It should be outlawed.
Gillis, Mary—USA I feel very strongly that parents should not be allowed to choose to mutilate their children through circumcision. It's disturbing that what is considered my the majority to be abusive towards females is accepted by so many as normal for male children. It's abhorrent, and I feel that we absolutely must take a stand. I live in the southern US where circumcision rates are still very high. The tradition of cruelty must end. We were the first in our family to take a stand against routine circumcision and we continue to bring this issue to the attention of anyone we encounter who feel like they have to make a decision about something that shouldn't even be an option.
Gilmour, Dave—United Kingdom I am a restorer. I was circumcised at 23 due to Lichen Sclerosus. If I had had access to proper accurate information about circumcision at that time I would not have gone ahead with the surgery. I am now opposed to cicumcision unless it is an absolute medical necessity.
Ginther, Cory—USA it is wrong to circamsize
Ginzburg, Ralph—USA The Ashley Montagu Resolution is eloquent.
Giovane, Adam —USA New cut father's need to be man enough to end the cutting cycle.
Girao, Rodrigo—Brazil As a victim of genital mutilation - as an adult and by the incompetence of an MD - it is clear to me that this procedure is monstrous and destructive, therefore it must be outlawed everywhere, with no exception, ever. Requests from adults who want to be circumcised should not be fulfilled by any MD, either: this is a clear sign of apotemnophilia, therefore such people should receive mental treatment instead.
Gladman, Erica—USA I first and foremost believe that the foreskin is a wonderful and useful part of the body. I know that without mine, sexual relations would be unbearable. And my young sons seem to enjoy theirs and have a certain proudness about their bodies. Secondly, I believe circumcision to be pain in the most extreme form. I know this because during an emergency c-section with my first son in which the epidural was utterly ineffective, the inexperienced Doctor stumbled upon a clitoral nerve that ran up near my bladder. He "bumped" into it a few times in a row and the unearthly scream that came out of me still haunts my husband years later. I didn't feel pain in my belly where he was touching, I felt the pain in my clitoral hood. It felt as if a hot knife was slicing pieces off. I had genital numbness for a few months that I did not have with my second C-section, so I believe it was more then a "bump". I however did recover, something that circumcised men and women can never do. I do not believe that parents should have the right to have amputated, healthy parts of their children's bodies. There are no reasons to cut a healthy baby. If you as a perent think it's cleaner, then you're too lazy to teach proper hygeine. And a freshly circumcised boy's tender penis will call for more care and special treatment then an uncircumcised one will! Intact boys are easy! If you think it's prettier, then you have allowed yourself to be warped into believing that amputations, mutilations, and scars are sexy. So when your son grows up and wants to do weird things to his body, you'd better just let him because you did it to him first! If you believe in the disease reasons (AIDS, cancers, UTI's etc.) know that we American's have a higher rate of AIDS and penile cancer then most of Europe, and they don't Circumcise. If we want to prevent disease in that way, we should cut out all baby girl's mammary glands to prevent the chance of breast cancer later, because breast cancer is much more prevelent then all the "uncircumcised diseases" combined! It's quite disgusting really, the rationale. If you think that a boy should look like his Dad (a real popular one) then understand that a little boy's penis looks so different from a man's anyway that it won't matter. And when he's old enough to look like dad, no one will be whipping it out to compare! And while we're on the subject of matching Dad, if Dad is brunette and son is blond, shall we dye his hair? My Uncle is missing a fingertip, shall we chop off his son's so they can feel special together? It is so ridiculous, it boggles the mind. I have two brothers, one was circumcised as a toddler to repair a condition called hypospadias and my other brother is not circumcised. In our house nudity was common and foreskin/no foreskin was a non issue. Even as adults now, we all agree that no one ever cared that there was a difference. my circumcised brother is just so thankful that my parents didn't agree to have him whisked off to be circumcised after birth because his condition was not discovered until he was two weeks old when my mother witnessed him urinating from an opening just above his scrotum. His foreskin could then later be used to "finish" his urethra where nature left off. Most circumcising parents and Doctors just don't really understand what they are doing. Please stop being a bunch of mindless lemmings following culture right off the cliff.
Gladstone, Tonya—Australia Nobody has the right to harm another living being. If one were to cut off a grown man's foreskin whilst he was strapped down and not informed of the events about to happen, one would be sued.
Glass, Michael—Australia Circumcisers: What Drives their Knives http://www.cirp.org/pages/cultural/glass0/ The New Testament and Circumcision http://www.cirp.org/pages/cultural/glass1/ Answers from the Bible to Questions about Circumcision http://www.cirp.org/pages/cultural/glass2/ What the Bible Reveals about Circumcision and Sexual Violence http://www.cirp.org/pages/cultural/glass3/ Circumcision's Seamy Underside http://jme.bmjjournals.com/cgi/eletters/30/3/248 The double standard of male and female suffering http://jme.bmjjournals.com/cgi/eletters/31/8/463
Glass, Ron—USA I am totally against any form or type of genital mutilation for reasons other than medical...or by choice from an adult male wishing to have such done.
Glick, Leonard—USA Marked in Your Flesh: Circumcision from Ancient Judea to Modern America Leonard B. Glick, Oxford University Press, June 2005
GOBERT, Jean—Belgium I can't admit that someone could find the right to mutilate a child, even for religious reasons !
Godi, Craig—USA I believe it IS the right of the man, not the parent(s), guardian, etc... to decide whether or not foreskin removal is necessary. I was 3 years old when my foreskin was removed. It was a painful, and LASTING memory which I can STILL recall vividly to this day. I'm not sure if the same pain being inflicted on a newborn feels any different from that of a toddler, but I can tell you it HURTS. Urination for me was agony days after the operation. I'm just lucky they used anesthesia to put me out. I'm told most newborns get this barbaric mutilation done while conscious. I'm not a "Bible-thumper" but if we're supposed to be PERFECT in God's eyes....why mess w/ perfection. You need to be of consenting age to get a tattoo. A minor needs parents permission for piercings that they want done. However, a baby can't tell his folks DON'T DO THIS...so they mutilate him because their religion says to?, hygiene?, insurance covers it?, all the other parents are doing it?, whatever excuse they can come up with. Tattoos fade, piercings close, but when you remove that little flap of skin, protecting the glans...that's PERMANENT. You have destroyed sensitive tissue and nerves, and have exposed the head of the penis(glans) to constant exposure. Abrasion from clothing will cause the skin to toughen over years...This WILL effect the man he will grow to up to be. Circumcision removes 20 to 80 percent of the sensitive tissue that gives a man pleasure during sexual intercourse. Parents usually want what's best for their kids. So be responsible enough to teach him proper foreskin hygiene...and don't just cut it off so you don't have to clean under it when you're changing the babies diaper. Keep your boys uncut, it's NOT necessary.
Gomez, Madeleine—USA Genital mutilation seems driven by historical abuse issues and/or economics. It seems a painful and traumatic way to enter the world. As the trauma is pre-verbal, we may never be fully aware of the ramifications. Children deserve protection from all forms of violence directed at their bodies, including genital mutilation and corporal punishment.
Goodman, Carol—USA Women's bodies are not the property of the state, religion, their families or their husbands. Stop the violence.
Goodrick, James—USA i disagree with any unconsented genital mutilation.
Gordon, Steven—USA I believe this is a very important cause that needs to be addressed. It's about time that people realize what a horrible crime this is that has been traditionally perpetrated upon the male children of the world. From the age of 13, when I realized for the first time that part of my body had been removed without my consent, I have been angry at the medical profession for pushing this practice on parents and angry at my parents for accepting that it was "something that had to be done." That quote is from my own mother. I heard her speak those words in the hospital a few hours after my son was born and my wife (ex) had betrayed an agreement that she had made with me that we would not have our son circumcised. She went behind my back and had it done anyway because "it was only $45 and I think a son's penis should look like his father's." After my mother voiced those words that cut me so deep for the second time my sister-in-law blurted out, "I don't know why, your brother isn't circumcised." I felt so betrayed and worst of all I felt that I had betrayed my son by letting this happen to him. This act has got to be stopped, or at least demoted to something that doctors will only do if parents insist it be done even after being shown the facts about the problems it causes, both mentally and physically.
Gould, Mindy—USA This is no different than female circumcision which our country opposes. I don't understand why it is still tolerated and condoned.
grant, norman—USA How sad it is to see such a great country like the United States suffer so much harm, and lack the ability to correct this because like masturbation, we believe its best not talked about. When will congress do what's right for the people instead of what's right for the media ? No wonder the U.S. leads the world in sexual problems. For the U.S. is the land where a male cannot be male ! Grow up America.. See and FEEL what you're missing.
Grassi, Stefano—USA This practise is wrong and needs to stop. Our government should be embarresed about allowing such a discracefull and barbaric practice and should offer their apologies to all of their victims! CIRCUMCISION IS GENITLE MUTILATION!! THIS ACT IS IMMORAL AND A HORRIFIC SIN AGAINST HUMANITY. THOSE WHO ENGAGE IN THE ACT OF GENITLY MUTILATION SHOULD BE IMPRISENED NO MATTER WHAT THEIR RELIGION OR CRAZY BELIEFS ARE. THIS ACT IS HORRIBLE CHILD ABUSE. IT IS TOTALLY CRAZY THAT WE HUMANS IN THE 21ST CENTURY ARE SO IGNORANT AS TO EVEN CONSIDER CIRCUMCISING A BABY 0R CHILD. THIS RITUAL STARTED BY VERY ABUSIVE PURVERTED GROUP OF PEOPLE AND CONTINUES BY THOSE SAME TYPES OF PEOPLE. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT LOOKS BETTER OR EVEN FUNCTIONS BETTER. IT IS WRONG, AND THESE BABIES AND CHILDREN ARE TO BE PROTECETED WHILE THEY ARE STILL INABLE TO DEFEND THEMSELVES. IT IS JUST LIKE A RAP VICTIM. DEFENSELESS. I AM ASHAMMED OF HUMANITY!!!!!
Gravestock, Tim—United Kingdom No child should be subjected to genital mutilation in the name of god or according to customary practice
Gray, Todd—USA Circumcision/Genital Mulilation is illegal. Aggravated sexual assault is described in the in the Criminal Code of Canada as a sexual assault in which the attacker "who in committing a sexual assault, wounds, maims, disfigures or endangers the life of the complainant." The maximum sentence is life in prison.
Graziani, Jesse My father was not circumcised and stated, very matter of factly, that none of his son(s) would ever be either. His reasons were that of the same stated in this bill. Circumcision is genital mutilation, a practice that should have ceased a very long time ago. I agree 100% with my father and with this bill. I can not imagine why anyone would agree with genital mutilation of a minor.
Greco, Jeanine—USA RIC is brutal and barbaric and should not be happening today!!
Greenslade, Joelle—United Kingdom There is no way on this earth any person should be circumcised, if we were supposed to be minus a foreskin, clitorus, ect., then we would have been made/born with out them. God made us with our 'bits' we should look after them.
Gresham, Zena—USA This is a human rights issue. Genital mutalation without informed consent of the person of which it is being performed is morally and ethically wrong and unnessasary.
Griffiths, Lawn—USA 11 December 2008 I have spent 25 years writing against circumcision, attending conferences, being part of NOCIRC locally, keep son and grandson intact and having NOCIRCM personal license plates, working at fairs and more. 11 February 2010 I have fought against circumcision in public articles and activism since the early 1970s. I am active in Arizona in the issue, take part in teach-ins and write letters far and wide. My Arizona license plate says NOCIRCM and it is on a child abuse prevention plate that says, "It Should NOT Hurt to be A Child." It is accompanied by bumper stickers. Much of my stop-circumcision [writing] can be found on the Web by googling my name and circumcision.
Grounds—United Kingdom Amy form of medical intervention without the consent of the individual should be outlawed. Any form of genital mutilation without consent should be criminalised.
Grunke, Roger—USA keep fighting
Gualtieri, Thomas—USA Male and female children deserve the same rights to genital integrity.
Gualtieri, Thomas—USA I believe genital surgery of any kind should be left up to the individual once that person reaches adulthood. Therefore, I am adamant that children should not be put through this ritual as they have no power of defense.
Guiremand, Harry—USA I have never understood how so many educated and intellegent people continue to turn a blind eye to the genital mutilation of infant boys.
