Name—Country Comment
O'Connor, Joseph—USA This is a crime that must be stopped
O'Donnell, Joe—USA Male circumcision removes flesh that grows to the square inch size of a postcard in an adult. This fundamentaly changes the way a penis functions sexually. If violence done to a babies penis doesn't concern you, please consider what violence done with his penis may happen later as an emotional result. The physical and emotional damage of infant sexual abuse will last forever. End this human right abusing abomination!
O'Hara, Kristen—USA Male circumcision harms the adult sexuality of both the man and his female partner, and their relationship happiness.
O'Laf, Lennon—Ireland Circumcision is a violent custom that robs child of their birth right. Children deserve to grow up as God made them, and make their own decisions about their body. Circumcision is a violation to everything that is good and just in this world it should be entirely eliminated. It doesn't even deserve to be considered history. I am Glad I am uncircumcised I cannot even imagine the rage I would have if part of my body was just cut off and thrown in the trash like that. More countries should follow my country's example and do not do this to your kids. Your kids will always thank you for not circumcising them.
O'Neill, Alan—USA Anyone who mutilates their children's genitals must be doing it out of ignorance because it's hard for me to believe that any parent could so cruelly torture their child.
O'Neill, T.—USA When will americans wake up? I am appalled by the sheer arrogance and/or intentional ignorance of american parents over this issue. The so-called medical "benefits" were refuted back in the early 70's, yet young boys continue to be mutilated with reckless abandon. The general reason (excuse) is more cosmetic than anything else. I believe that no one has the right to force cosmetic surgery upon a child incapable of consenting, yet the multi-billion dollar medical industry allows it! But then, a society that murders pre- born children at a rate of 1 million-plus year surely will have no thought or regard for the genital integrity of newborns.
Oakes, James—USA I think that the routine circumcision of boys is not morally or ethically sound. The only reason the practice continues in the United States is pointless tradition, people who "want Junior to look like Daddy." Others quote medical reasons which have long since been disproven. Meanwhile, hospitals get to reap the benefits of this simple and profitable procedure. Depriving children of functional parts of their anatomy for non-medical reasons is wrong, and the fact that we continue to do so is inconsistent with our medical ethics.
Oakhurst, Jennesse—Canada It is barbaric that babies and children, or occasionally adults are forced to go through these procedures...particularly when it is so they will "look like a parent". Hair colour can be different, noses can be different, but genitalia can't??
oberhollenzer, amen—Austria humanity is to be freed and protected from suffering and from doing also this [genital mutilation] anti-humanity-, anti-creation-, anti- creator-aktivity. in order to free and protect humanity, the mistakes in the learningprocess - amongst them the mistake of willfull wrong teaching and blind following obvious lies and myth - have to be korrected. humanity has the ability to cognise the ability to see the mistakes and to korrect them in the interest for a peaceful, repectful, healthy, happy humanity. pro-humanity-aktivity is the basic human rule of law and duty based upon the ability and the freedom to act egologically for humanity. ... genital mutilation and every other ant- humanistic-praxis is to be STOPPED by the existing rule of law that is valid in every rightful democratic state. all means for the extinction of genital mutilation are in place. justice for all species, justice for humanity and every other entity is to be done. to protect every child from any harm, is every co-scholars [every co- humans] freedom, right and prime-duty. amen
OBrien, Michele—USA All forms of genital cutting needs to cease immediately! No one has the right to mutilate, especially healthy tissues which serve intended functions..from another without their consent. Period.
Ocampo, Carlos—USA If it ain't broken, the doctor doesn't need to fix it. Besides collecting a fee, how do doctors justify removing healthy tissue? Does circumcision make any more sense than removing a baby's eyelids?
Ocasio, Eugene—Puerto Rico It should be mandatory for every single hospital in the world to leave their newborn baby boys uncircumcised. Parents should be made aware of the dangers involved in the procedure and the cruelty of the act, as well as the consequences in adulthood of such mutilation. Children are left scared and grow up to be scared and deformed males. If circumcision is necesary then farmers and animal and pet owners should have their, bulls, horses, donkeys, cats, dogs and all mammal males be mutilated in this manner as well.
Ocasio, Eugenio—Puerto Rico The cruel effects of male cirsumcision cannot be seen right away but the scars and deformity of the penis wil be quite clear in adulthood after the reaching the late 20s.
Odle, Kenneth—USA
Ogden, Lindsay—USA It's not the place of the parent or doctor to choose a cosmetic surgery for a child. Circumcision in male or female children is unnecessary and harmful to long-term sexual health. No one has the right to choose cosmetic surgery but the subject himself.
Okelberry, Jennifer—USA I believe all children have the right to have their bodies respected. Parents do not have the right to have their children's bodies permantly alterd in any way simply because it is the culteral thing to do. This is a choice that should be left up to the child. What right do we have as parents to subject our children to un- needed pain and crulety? It is our job to love them not harm them. God created our bodies in a perfect manner, why do we feel the need to change that in such a permanant and painful manner without their consent? I sign this in the hope that some day all children male/ and female will be respected like we respected our son.
Oleson, Roger—USA The decision to alter a persons body in any way should only be the decision of the person being altered when they are old enough to make their own decision.
Olivas, Ross—USA I am a 30 year old uncircucmcised male, and I don't believe in the mutilation of men or women. We should strive for education on the issues surrounding Genital Integrity.
Oliver, Thomas—USA I am a victim of this mutilation. Because of circumcision, my genitalia never fully developed. I now have a hidden penis. The skin connecting to my scrotum is webbed. There is a ringed scar on the lower part of my penis towards the base. It is painful to have an erection. There is not enough skin left to allow for a successful expansion of my blood vessels for a fully functional erection. It is tight and uncomfortable when blood is rushed to that area. I HAVE BEEN RAPED! Circumcision is wrong. It is the raping of my body, my private parts. Who are you to decide how my sexual organs should be? That decision is mine and MINE alone. Not my parents or the doctors or hospitals or anyone else. It is for ME to decide and ME alone. You mutilate me as a baby. A being who cannot talk. Someone not yet able to stand up and say NO! to this atrocity. HOW DARE YOU! It should be my decision when I get older to decide if I would want to have a circumcision. NOT YOURS! Keep your beliefs and your religions off my body!! It is a person's own RIGHT to decide what is done to THEIR bodies. No one will ever EVER have the right to do that for us!!!
Olivier, Christin—USA All three of my sons are intact (ages 27, 16 and 11). My comment is this: God knows how to make a penis by now, wouldn't you think? I also breastfed my children, on demand, for many years. Thank God I made these choices.
Olsen, Darren—USA Any form of surgery that removes part of one's body that doesn't need to be, and most importantly is done without the person's consent, is unethical, and needs to be abolished.
Olson, Heather—Canada I have given this topic a lot of thought as a parent. I have read and investigated the issue, considering different sides to the arguement, it is very clear to me that circumcision is not healthy.
omalley, judith—USA I HAVE SEEN DOCUMENTARIES REGARDING GENITAL MUTILATION AND FEEL GRATEFUL TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO VOICE MY ANGER AND DISGUST AT SUCH HORRENDOUS TREATMENT OF HUMAN BEINGS.
Ooi—Australia How can this perpetuation of abuse continue? Countless people, myself included have been subject to mental and emotional torture, as well as the loss of sexual function. You have the power to stop the madness from continuing. Do something NOW. Denmark has already got plans to ban circumcision for children until they reach age 15. I use similar laws to be set in place throughout the world. MY BODY MY RIGHTS.
Orgeron, Jeremy—USA I believe circumcision is unnecessary and harmful on many levels. I am currently restoring (a beginner)
Ortiz Monasterio, Gabriela—Mexico I'm so happy to have found this petition. I have three sons ages 22, 20 and 9. I knew nothing about the consequences of circumcision when my first son was born. It was a routine process done at Mexican hospitals at that time. But my intuition just told me that if nature had made men that way, it was for a very good reason and trying to change that in any way was wrong. I have just read about the consequences and what men... and women... and society... miss in the deepest sense of the word with circ. I'm soooo glad about not having had our sons mutilated!!! I feel that circ is a form of sexual mutilation and that is a way of acting out deeply unresolved emotional issues on tiny, defenseless babies who may mirror what many adults have disowned about themselves. I had also thought for a long time that routine episiotomy is a form of sexual mutilation and I am very glad to have found websites where it is defined as such. The more we get to understand this, the more human beings will be able to heal. Thanks
Osborne, Christopher—USA The SIMPLE question is; *if* females may have protection from such harm, then under what logic are boys exempt from the same protection? And for those who argue that this unthinkable procedure is medically "helpful", How is it then, that for over 18,000,000 years human beings have existed happily and healthily, with ALL of their organs (foreskin) intact? (including the 85%+ who are living on this planet today with intact, healthy and normal organs). As for those who believe in religious creation, to practice routine infant circumcision, is to blaspheme, and to destroy the perfect creation of the divine. For those who believe in evolution, very simply put, "how is it that BILLIONS of years of evolution, can be 'wrong', or 'flawed'???" !!!Please STOP this barbaric practice! Grant all HUMAN BEINGS the irrevocable, god-given right to a complete, and natural body. We CAN NOT advance as a species, until we abandon, such illogical, irrational, harmful, injudicious, and degrading, rituals.
Ostertag, Renata—Germany Male Sexual Mutilation as well as female one is the most outrageous human rights violation and a particularly perverted form of sexual abuse
Ovanin, Natalie—USA Cosmetic body modification of any kind is the right of the individual. Children are not possessions.
Owens, Kristy—USA We must stop the systematic torture and mutilation of the children of our nation and all nations.
